Schelling case to be featured on ABC’s “20/20” tonight

What happened to Kelsie Schelling?

In the story that will air on Friday, “20/20” investigates and confronts those behind the mysterious plot and uncovers developments about what really happened to Kelsie.

Kelsie, 21, mysteriously vanished into thin air in Pueblo, Colorado over three years ago.

The family said surveillance video, text messages, and other evidence point to her boyfriend’s involvement, yet to their outrage, police have not yet classified the case as a homicide and have not charged him with a crime.

But then a series of Facebook messages to Kelsie’s mother raised new theories – is the missing girl’s disappearance prompting someone to attempt extortion?

In an interview with KRDO NewsChannel 13, Kelsie’s mom, Laura Saxton, said she couldn’t elaborate on the messages she’s received but said there are “cruel people” in the world.

“There are a lot of really evil people out there, and we have unfortunately had a lot of encounters with many different ones, just with false tips and things of that nature that just take a lot of time, a lot of resources because you want to check everything out. You don’t want to let anything go,” said Saxton. “This is very common in missing persons’ cases, and it is beyond me why anyone can be that cruel, but there are a bunch of them out there unfortunately. So it’s a warning to other families that these people are out there that want to profit off of your pain and suffering.”

Saxton said she hopes there is some good that comes with sharing Kelsie’s story with a national audience.

“We are all praying really hard that something positive comes from this,” said Saxton.

Ryan Smith’s report airs on”20/20″on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 9 p.m. on KRDO NewsChannel 13.
