Person killed in Colorado Springs crash identified

Colorado Springs Police have released the name of a person who died in a crash in southeast Colorado Springs Wednesday night.

Frank Schiro, 59, was killed. Two others were hospitalized.

Police say Schiro was driving a 1994 GMC Rally Wagon northbound on N. Academy Boulevard when he ran a red light at Airport Road. The GMC hit a van in the intersection.

Westbound Airport Road and all northbound lanes of Academy Boulevard were closed for a few hours during the investigation, but reopened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The other driver involved in the crash will not be cited. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors.
