Victims cope with massive apartment fire

evening and thanks for joining us for krdo newschannel 13 at 10. i’m james jarman. and i’m heather skold. new tonight, 16 people are looking for a place to stay after a large fire destroyed an apartment building in colorado springs. it started around 5:30 tonight in the 43-hundred block of hunting meadows circle. that’s near south academy and south chelton road in the city’s southeast side. and that’s where krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live tonight with new information. greg… there’s really nothing left of those apartment units. heather, the rubble is still smoldering and firefighters are watching it carefully. the people who lived here are left searching for anything that didn’t burn. sot: just heard a pop, a hissing sound. what nathan siebach saw next, left him devastated. sot: i just stood and watched helplessly. there wasn’t really anything else i can do. he just returned home when he says his neighbor’s grill caught fire… quickly thinking, he disconnecte d his propane tank – hoping to buy firefighters time. sot: it took me by surprise at first, i really didn’t think it would go as fast as it did. the fire destroyed his apartment – and everyone elses in the four-plex. investigator s say the adjacent building was severely damaged by smoke – but the building is intact. james mack / neighbor sot: i never thought this would happen in my complex, and i’ve been here for over fifteen years. it took crews an hour to put it out – greg: charred rubble is all that is left and firefighters will be here all night making sure the fire doesn’t re- ignite. but they’re stil hesitant to pinpoint a cause. sot: it’s under investigation, there’s quite a bit of damage. i can’t suggest or speculate on that. for now, mack is trying to take it all in – sot: i’m sure it’ll hit as more and more – as wee look for a change of clothes. as he and his wife look for a new place to live. we’re told four people suffered smoke inhalation live in colorado springs, greg miller, krdo newschannel 13. live. we’re told four people suffered smoke inhalation live in colorado springs, greg miller, krdo newschannel 13. looking ahead..
