Colorado Springs officer involved shooting ruled justified

The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office has ruled that a Colorado Springs Police Officer was justified in shooting a man late last year.

The incident happened on December 30, 2015 on Sierra Springs Drive, which is near S. Academy Boulevard and Astrozon Boulevard on the southeast side.

According to an arrest affidavit, a woman was upstairs in bed and her children, ages 2 and 3, were in their rooms. It says the woman heard banging coming from the garage. She looked out her window and saw a dark sedan parked in her driveway.

After trying to scare the driver away by turning on her light, the woman called her husband who was out of town for work. He told her to call 9-1-1. The Department of Corrections confirms that her husband is a former corrections officer.

The affidavit alleges that Thomas Guolee, 34, fired in the direction of an officer who had just arrived at the home. It says the officer returned fire. Another officer who responded to the call did not have a clear shot and did not return fire.

The affidavit says that Guolee then got in the car and led police in a pursuit that ended at Whittier Drive and Ruskin Drive. It says that Guolee was armed with a Smith and Wesson model 36 five shot revolver when he was arrested. It also says the car he was driving had been reported stolen.

Guolee is facing numerous charges, including attempted murder of a police officer and attempted burglary. His bond has been set at $1 million. Guolee’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 15.

Guolee was questioned in the 2013 murder of Department of Corrections Director Tom Clements.

The lone suspect in the death was Evan Ebel, a paroled member of a white supremacist prison gang who died in a shootout with Texas authorities.
