Lockdown at Pueblo’s Chavez Huerta campus lifted

Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez academies were locked down Friday.

The lockdown has been lifted.

The call came in to police at 12:30 after a staff member reported seeing a man walking in the area with a rifle. The man disappeared shortly after.

Police searched the schools room-by-room and did not find any armed individuals.

Parents were gathering at the school campus after hearing the reports of the lockdown. Many of them were waiting without any information for more than an hour.

The school carnival that was scheduled for Friday afternoon has been postponed.

The man is described as possibly in his 20s, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and wearing a dark brown jacket and jeans. He was reportedly carrying a long gun.

The Cesar Chavez Academy and Dolores Huerta Preparatory Academy are located on West 18th Street.
