5 fallen officers, including Swasey, added to Colorado memorial

The names of the four officers killed in the line of duty in Colorado last year have been added to the state law enforcement memorial in Golden.

Jefferson County Sgt. Sean Renfro, state Troopers Taylor Thyfault and Jaimie Jursevics, and University of Colorado Colorado Springs police officer Garret Swasey were added to the memorial at the Colorado State Patrol Academy in Golden during an outdoor ceremony Friday morning.

Swasey died in the Black Friday shooting at the Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs.

Pueblo County Sheriff’s Sgt./Inspector Warren Watts also had his name added to the memorial. Watts died of a heart attack in 2012. In November 2015, the Public Safety Officers’ Benefit Program declared Watts’ death as in the line of duty after it was determined he suffered three separate cardiac arrests, two of which occurred while he was on duty.

The memorial was created in 1979.
