State Patrol investigating deadly crash that closed Highway 50

State Patrol is investigating a deadly car crash that left Highway 50 closed for several hours. It happened Tuesday about nine miles east of Salida.

Investigators say a Toyota Tacoma was driving westbound on the highway when it drifted into the eastbound lane and crashed into a semi-truck and trailer.

The crash caused more than 150 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the roadway and shoulder. It took crews six hours to clean up the spill.

The driver of the Toyota, Lemual Clasby, 81, of Canon City, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash but say speed and alcohol are not being considered as factors.
