Colorado Republicans divided: State GOP chairman to vote, work for Trump, others not sold

Some party leaders on Wednesday said they will work hard to get Donald Trump elected president in this fall

But, other activists in the party remain true to their #NeverTrump beliefs.

After a win in Indiana, the New York businessman and real estate mogul is now a presumptive presidential nominee.

“We want to bring unity to the Republican party,” Trump said in his victory speech Tuesday night.

Tony Gioia, a GOP voter in Colorado Springs won’t support Trump.

“I will not be voting for Donald Trump even though I am a Republican and consider myself a rather faithful Republican,” Gioia said.

Colorado Republican Party Chairman Steve House, who received death threats from Trump supporters after the state convention last month, is committed to help guide Trump to victory in November.

“Donald Trump will be a very competitive nominee in the general election and frankly we can do what we need to do to get him elected over Hillary Clinton,” House said. “We’re already working to get him a victory in the general election, we’re talking to the campaign about it. I don’t blame Donald Trump for the action of his supporters. Not everybody that votes for you is the kind of person you want to have a beer with. You can’t take responsibility for how they all are. The bottom line is Donald Trump is our nominee.”

The creator of the #NeverTrump hashtag that blew up on social media lives in Colorado Springs.

Aaron Gardner, a conservative activist and former managing editor of RedState.com will never change his mind.

“I won’t be voting for Trump and I won’t be voting for Hillary Clinton, quite frankly neither of them match the principles I hold dear.”

Gardner will continue to promote and use the hashtag over these next six months.

He believes Trump at the top of the ticket puts Colorado safely in the Democratic, blue column in November.
