Colorado Cruz delegate saddened, will get behind Trump

Sen. Ted Cruz swept the delegates at the state convention in Colorado Springs last month.

When Cruz dropped out of the presidential race Tuesday night, it raised questions of the future of Cruz’s committed delegates.

Kay Rendleman, an alternate national Cruz delegate from the Springs, was deeply saddened to see her candidate end his presidential bid. She says this reality is tough to accept but she will stand with the republican nominee, likely Donald Trump in the fall.

“I was first surprised and very sad,” Rendleman said. “I thought Ted Cruz would be a great and terrific president for us. I will continue to support him as long as his name is on the ballot. I think it’s important we unify so we can move the country to support our candidates in all the different races, to move the beliefs of the Republican Party.”

Bob Balink, the former El Paso County Clerk and Recorder and state GOP leader knows it’s time to unite the party.

“The last thing we need is to have a divisive convention,” Balink said. “We need people to get together at some point in time that point is getting close. Not voting is not an option.”

Rendleman is bound to vote for Cruz on the first ballot in Cleveland unless Cruz releases his delegates before the convention.

UCCS Professor and KRDO political analyst Josh Dunn calls this 2016 presidential race bizarre.

Dunn thinks when Cruz picked former presidential contender Carly Fiorina to be his running mate last week, it showed his desperation. He also believes the “Never Trump” movement within the GOP began too late in the campaign.
