Ft. Carson hosts blood drive for troops overseas

Fort Carson and the Armed Services Blood Program are hosting a blood drive to support troops overseas.

The ASBP is the official military blood program and is a tri-service organization comprised of donor centers from the Army, Air Force and Navy. It’s providing blood to troops in Afghanistan and military treatment facilities worldwide.

“This is just a priceless act and a priceless thing for someone who needs blood,” ASBP Public Affairs Specialist Lori Kuczmanski said. “You never know when you’ll need it, so pay it forward.”

The goal of the ASBP is to collect 450 units of blood during the three-day blood drive. Soldiers said it means a lot to donate knowing they’re helping fellow service members.

“I’ve never personally had the chance to go over, and whatever help that I can do here, by all means I’m willing to help out and do whatever I can to help them,” Specialist Nicholas Wimmer said.

The blood drive continues Tuesday until 4 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
