People bundle for babies in Colorado Springs

The cold weather isn’t stopping people from saving babies.

The annual March For Babies event was Saturday in Colorado Springs.

The event wasn’t on a typical spring day. There was snow, wind and frigid temperatures.

“I’ve lived in Pennsylvania and I’ve lived in Colorado, and this is the snowiest and coldest yet,” organizer Carol Burch said.

Felisa Torres braved the cold because the March For Babies is part of March Of Dimes, which is an organization that helped her daughter.

“She was born at 27 weeks and weighed 2 pounds 4 ounces,” Torres said.

She said her daughter’s premature birth worried her.

“(I was wondering) if she was going to make it. If she was going to have delays or anything,” Torres said.

She joined hundreds of other people to march for the babies.

Burch said it’s one of her life goals to save babies.

“I’ve known so many people who suffered so much and their children have suffered so much. They become my family and it is my dream that all children be healthy one day,” Burch said.

Healthy and worry-free like Torres and her daughter.

The event made close to $150,000.

KRDO NewsChannel 13’s Heather Skold was the master of ceremonies for the event.
