Winter weather returns to Woodland Park

Higher elevations disappeared Thursday into a fog that cut visibility to a few hundred feet, but by nightfall, the cloud that consumed the city of Woodland Park turned to snow.

Residents and drivers had mixed reviews about the return of winter weather this time of year.

Ashley Thompson said, “I think this is spring in Colorado.”

But Robert Session was ready for it to be over.

“I’m pretty tired of winter,” he said, “I’m tired of the snow, I’m ready for the sun.”

Woodland Park saw snow on Thursday morning, but it was nothing like what came down earlier this month.

Sharon Roshek remembers it well.

“We had about 30 inches,” she said.

The prospect of more snow overnight didn’t seem to bother her much.

“It’s always a little unexpected,” she said, “you have to be ready for the worst and love the best.”

In Woodland park, the plan is for the plows to get to work around 6am, clearing the bus routes and primary roads.

In Colorado Springs, survey crews hit the streets Thursday evening, but the plows won’t come out until they’re needed.

It’s a similar story with C-DOT.

State crews laid out de-icer and anti-skid material early, and plows were ready to hit the road as conditions deteriorate.
