Pueblo city schools train students for careers

Congress is beginning to push for applied learning classes for students who want to have technical careers, but Pueblo District 60 has been emphasizing this path for years.

Students in District 60 have access to Career and Technical Education classes in topics that include health and graphic design among others.

Students can start these specific classes as early as freshman year and can earn a certificate in their field by the time they graduate.

The Health Academy Dean, Bill Mcauliffe, says more students are taking these classes.

“So we are really on the upswing, we’ve added programs like teacher cadet, which is a teacher preparation current tech ed program. We added that at East High School for next year.

“We’ve added catering to some of our culinary arts programs,” said Mcauliffe.

Mcauliffe said 40 percent of all high school students are in CTE classes.
