Land swap opponents sue city, alleging open records act violation

An attorney representing a group opposed to a land swap between the city of Colorado Springs and the Broadmoor is suing, accusing the city of violating the Colorado Open Records Act request.

Through the lawsuit, the group hopes to have land appraisals released for Strawberry Fields. Opponents of the swap say the $1.5 million price tag put on Strawberry Fields is well-below what it’s actually worth.

At a work session on Monday, the City Council said it will release the appraisals in two weeks and then vote on the land swap two weeks after, May 24.

However, opponents said it’s taken the city too long to produce the appraisals that have been requested repeatedly. The group’s attorney said they’re pushing for a motion to schedule a court hearing as soon as possible.
