Full agenda awaits Colorado Springs City Council

The Colorado Springs City Council discussed nearly a dozen topics during a Monday afternoon work session.

Among the topics: a resolution authorizing the buyout of a home on Custer Avenue near the Patty Jewett Golf Course under a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant program.

The home, now vacant, was threatened by flooding and erosion in the Shooks Run drainage behind the home in 2013.

The total cost of the buyout is $345,000. FEMA paid around $260,000 and the city and state each contributed around $43,000.

The city is still waiting on other FEMA reimbursements because of record flooding in the fall of 2013.

The City Council also discussed the city’s proposed land exchange with the Broadmoor — this, a week after the Parks Advisory Board voted to send the idea to the council for further consideration.

After a sometimes heated discussion, the council decided to delay a final vote on the matter for two weeks, moving the date from May 10 to May 24.

Council members said they need more time to study a third-party assessment of the value of all properties involved.

The city and the Broadmoor each sought assessments of their own properties but the results have yet to be made public.

The results of the third party assessment will be released during another work session in two weeks and the council will hear public comment on the matter.

The council also considered a one-year moratorium on new marijuana facilities or changes in location for existing facilities.

Also on the work session agenda: an agreement with the state to finance a widening project on Woodmen Road, as well as a briefing on the upcoming spraying of trees for pest control in North Cheyenne Caon and Blodgett Peak Open Space.
