Pueblo County approves stormwater agreement

The Pueblo County Board of Commissioners has unanimously approved a stormwater agreement with the City of Colorado Springs.

Pueblo County and Colorado Springs have agreed to a 20-year, $460 million plan to build more than 70 stormwater facility to improve the water quality in Fountain Creek, from Colorado Springs to Pueblo. Colorado Springs officially approved the deal last week. The agreement was approved by Pueblo County officials Monday morning.

Pueblo County Commissioner Terry Hart says it’s a historic deal. “This kind of an agreement is finally where instead of yelling at each other, we sit down at a table and we start saying ‘what does the science show us and exactly what are the most appropriate solutions to those problems that we’re facing?’ Hart said.

Some of the stormwater projects have already started.
