Police investigating vehicles damaged by shots fired, neighbors rattled

Colorado Springs police are investigating what prompted multiple gunshots early Monday morning.

The shots were heard at around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Ruskin Drive. Police found multiple shell casings and said there were several gunshots.

They said three unoccupied vehicles were damaged by bullets. They don’t know if the shooter or shooters were targeting people or if they were shooting randomly at cars.

People who live in the neighborhood say it’s alarming to have the shooting happen so close to home.

” It was a gun battle last night…. It was several… 20 or 30 shots. And then I just hit the floor,” described a neighbor.

“It was serious business,” he added.

Investigators aren’t yet sure of a motive but are examining shell casings for clues.

“At this point it’s difficult to say whether someone was going around destroying property or someone was shooting at somebody,” said Sgt. Joel Kern, with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (719) 444-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP ( 7867. )
