Men robbed at gunpoint in Colorado Springs

Is violent crime on the rise in southern Colorado? Two brothers believe so after becoming victims of an armed robbery.

One of the brothers told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that they had returned home from a meal around 1 a.m. on Hancock Avenue, just east of downtown Colorado Springs.

The brother said they were approached by two men, one of whom pointed a gun in his face and demanded money.

The men took around $100 in cash and ran away after briefly trying to take his vehicle, the brother said.

“We grew up here, and things like this never used to happen,” he said. “Now, it is. They couldn’t have been older than 18 or 20.”

Police describe the robbers as two young Hispanic men.

A K9 search of the area did not find them.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 is checking with local law enforcement about violent crime trends so far this year.
