Man dead after multiple pursuits

One man is dead after leading law enforcement on multiple chases Thursday night. Authorities say he took his own life.

Deputies say at around 11 pm Thursday, a deputy tried to pull over the suspect, because he was driving erratically, running stop signs and stop lights. The deputy thought the driver was going to stop, but instead he backed up and hit the deputy’s car. He then sped off leading deputies on a cahse.

Deputies tried stopping him several times, but had to stop the pursuits because of safety concerns for other drivers.

Finally, State Patrol stopped the vehicle with a tactical maneuver on Powers Boulevard near Platte Avenue. When law enforcement began approaching him, authorities say he shot himself.

No one else was hurt in the pursuits.
