Phone scammers call pretending to be Colorado Springs police
Colorado Springs police is alert the public about a phone scam where callers say they are raising money to help police.
Police said scammers identify themselves as police officers. The scammers then try to get money from the victims by saying they are raising money on behalf of the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs.
This is similar to calls where scammers say they are with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Officer or Fountain Police.
The Colorado Springs Police Department and the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs would like to stress to the community that we NEVER call citizens to raise money.
Any phone call that attempts to solicit money on behalf of our organizations is engaging in a criminal act that should be reported to 719-444-7000.
