Colorado Springs student to carry Olympic Torch

The Young Champion Ambassador Marlee Tate, a Junior from Falcon High School is traveling with Mayor Suthers and a Colorado Springs delegation to Ancient Olympia, Greece to take part in the torch lighting ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics and became one of the first torch bearers of the Olympic torch relay.

This marks the first time in history that a U.S. citizen participated in this milestone event in the international sports world.

The Ancient Olympia Sister City Committee initiated the “Young Champion Ambassador” (YCA) program after Colorado Springs and Ancient Olympia became sister cities in 2014. The main vision of the YCA program is to create awareness about the legacy of the Olympic movement in Colorado Springs and to enhance the city’s image as an attractive destination for people from around to world.
