Trump, Clinton deliver blowout victories in home state
On their home court, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump deliver.
Todd Garcia, a Trump supporter from Colorado Springs argues the New York Primary results Tuesday night prove Trump is the people’s choice.
“Look at how many more people came out this year than in 2008, than in 2012,” Garcia said. “These people are coming out here and voting.”
On the Democratic side, Michael Perez is a Hillary Clinton national delegate from Colorado. Perez believes it’s time to bring the party together.
“I believe Hillary’s win in New York starts to raise questions for the Sanders campaign having a viable path moving forward,” Preez said. “It’s essential to coalesce and unite the Democratic party moving forward to start healing the divides.”
Before Tuesday night, Sen. Sanders had momentum on his side, Clinton had math. Now she takes the momentum into five Northeastern states that vote next Tuesday.
Still, Sanders supporters say the race isn’t over.
“Bernie has shown real strength among Independents and some Republicans that Hillary doesn’t have,” Mike Maday, a national Sanders delegate said. “I think to say that bernie is out of it after tonight is ridiculous. There’s a lot of primaries and votes yet to be cast.”
The primary calendar has six weeks left. California anchors the final states to vote on June 7.
Sanders now needs to win 80 percent of the pledged delegates remaining to overtake Clinton’s lead.
