Woodland Park residents digging their way out of April snowstorm

One of the hardest hit areas from this weekend’s storm was in Teller County. Residents in Woodland Park woke up to 2 feet or more of snow.

Many spent the morning digging their way out and cleaning up.

“Lots of snow, just snow, wind and drifts,” said Nathan Bork.

Snow pounded Teller County, leaving behind slush, ice and snow drifts.

“Just huge, huge drifts, and weaving through knee-deep snow and constantly shoveling. It’s just been crazy,” said Leah Chapman.

Viewer photos show some backyards covered in feet of snow and patios buried. Most areas saw 2 feet or more of snow.

Many people got stuck; one man had to plow his way out of a snow drift.

“I I had to plow through a bunch of them today at about 30 mph. A lot of wind last night,” said Jim Luthi.

Crews worked into the early morning hours Sunday clearing the roadways.

“You have to watch the roads, they’re icy with a little bit of water on top, so have to pay attention for sure,” said Luthi.

Snow in April is common in Colorado but Woodland Park residents said it’s been awhile since they’ve seen this much.

“It’s better than any storm we’ve had in a couple years I think,” said Bork.

“I haven’t seen one this bad since I moved here like six or seven years ago, so it’s been awhile since I’ve seen this much snow,” said Chapman.

The National Weather Service said this was the biggest storm Woodland Park had this spring season.
