Colorado Springs group holds silent walk, sending loud message about gun violence

A passionate group took to the streets on Sunday in Colorado Springs.

Common Space Collective, a group of community organizers, facilitated a silent walk as a method of healing and space intervention in response to the recent mass shootings in Colorado Springs.

People within the group say they’ve had enough of the events occurring so often.

“It’s a peaceful artistic demonstration. It’s really to occupy space in a peaceful way and respect those that we’ve lost,” co-organizer Han Sayles explained.

“To have some space for people to share in dialogue but also reclaim space. That’s why it’s silent. We’re honoring this neighborhood and also what our state has gone through with gun violence in general,” organizer Laurie Works added.

The walk concluded with a discussion at First Congregational Church to help shed light on the topic of gun violence.
