Storm preparedness: What to have in your car if you’re stranded

With strong storms impacting Southern Colorado, KRDO NewsChannel 13 wants you to be prepared for the worst.

El Paso County emergency management crews warn that slide-offs are possible and heavy snow could leave you stranded.

The most important thing, according to crews, is to not underestimate the potential power of this storm.

They advise having supplies readily available in your car, including:

– Food (dried foods)
– Water
– Extra clothes
– Blankets
– An ice scraper
– Jumper cables
– A first aid kit
– A tool kit

“Even an extra phone or battery for your phone,” added Lonnie Inzer, El Paso County Deputy Chief for Emergency Management. “It’s important that you’re able to have an emergency communication plan for your family. “

Emergency crews are on standby all weekend, ready to assist stranded drivers.

“Stay inside your vehicle. do not walk away from your vehicle. We do have rescue people that will be out searching for you,” said Inzer.
