Training with the big guns; Expect loud booms from Fort Carson

Expect those window rattling booms from the Mountain Post to make a return.

The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, is conducting gunnery qualifications for tank, Bradley and Stryker crews through June 5 in Fort Carson’s training area.

Field training includes day and night live-fire exercises qualifying crews on heavy weapons including the M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicles.

During the exercises, crews will engage simulated targets using different scenarios to build team cohesion and ensure they are proficient in their skills.

People who live near Fort Carson are used to the periodic training exercises. On some nights, when the atmospheric conditions are just right, the booming can be heard well into northern Colorado Springs.

Noise complaints should be directed to the Fort Carson Public Affairs Office at 719-526-9849.
