Boulders used to smash car windows in northeast Springs neighborhood

The Colorado Springs Police Department says several cars were vandalized in a neighborhood on the northeast side of the city Wednesday night.

The investigation is happening in a neighborhood near Marksheffel Road and Dublin Boulevard.

Someone used huge boulders to smash windows out of at least some of the damaged vehicles.

“The back windows are all busted out,” said Ashleigh Stuart.

Stuart lives in the neighborhood were dozens of cars were vandalized. She woke up Thursday morning to a boulder smashed through her back car window.

“I was a little bit disheartened, I thought, gosh, I must have really upset somebody,” said Stuart.

Stuart learned she wasn’t alone. At least 30 cars in the neighborhood were targeted at random.

“For the sole intent to be destructive it’s disheartening. You think this day in age what’s the purpose behind it? Just to be mean?” said Stuart.

Five different streets were targeted. In almost every case, large boulders were used to smash windows.

“I looked out my front door in the morning, and there was something suspicious on the car,” said another victim, who wishes to not use her name.

She said she was caught by surprise to see a boulder smashed through her husband’s car front window.

“Look at the size of my hand compared to the size of this boulder. It’s not a rock,” said the woman.

She says her neighbors surveillance camera caught two teens throwing the boulder.

“You try to have something nice and someone comes and violates your privacy and things. Who do they think they are?” she said.

No suspect information is currently available. Neighbors say they’re keeping their eyes out.

“You might think it’s a nice neighborhood and nothing will happen but clearly I think they were going for a low profile neighborhood where they could get mass damage in a short amount of time,” said Stuart.

The vehicles damaged had nothing in common, except they were parked on the street or driveway.
