Man who pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a child sentenced

A Colorado Springs man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a little girl was sentenced Wednesday morning.

Jimmie Brewer pleaded guilty to felony sexual assault on a child in January. He was sentenced to ten years to life on sex offender intensive supervised probation on April 13, 2016. Brewer was also ordered to register as a sex offender and is prohibited from using any devices that are linked to the internet.

The defense argued that Brewer didn’t know what he was doing was wrong, and that he needs counseling.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 first broke the story about the controversy surrounding the unusually low bond he was given following his arrest.

Questions were raised about whether his wife, Marsha Brewer, used her connections to the Republican Party to get him leniency. Marsha Brewer was running for county commissioner at the time of his arrest. She dropped out following our report.

The District Attorney’s Office said Brewer’s initial bond was set at $5,000 because the deputy district attorney and the judge didn’t see the felony charges.

KRDO.com previously reported that Jimmie Brewer was sentenced to ten years to life in prison. That information was not correct. We apologize for the error.
