State GOP Chairman target of death threats after convention

The head of the Colorado Republican Party says he’s receiving death threats after Ted Cruz’s big win at the state convention this past weekend.

Cruz won all of the state’s delegates, angering Donald Trump and his supporters, who claimed the system was “rigged” so that he wouldn’t win.

Steve House told KRDO Newschannel 13 Tuesday night that he receives 40 to 50 calls per an hour, and some are very violent.

House recalled one particular call he got from a man in Plano, Texas.

“He said I need you to do me a favor, and I said well that depends on what it is. And he said get your gun, put it in your mouth, pull the trigger. I’ll call you back in two minutes. If you can’t do that, I’m gonna send someone over to the house to help you,” he said.

The threats are also coming in the form of texts and emails.

“A guy sent me a text message saying that I would never make it to Cleveland, and neither would my family. There was another email that came in today through the RNC that said you will be six feet under before you’re anywhere near Cleveland. You know, stuff like that,” said House.

Cleveland is the site of the Republican National Convention in a few months.

Following the state convention Saturday, Donald Trump heavily criticized the party’s nomination process.

“It was a total fix. The people all wanted to vote. They took away their votes,” said Trump at a rally on Monday.

House says Colorado’s delegate selection process was fair, Ted Cruz simply beat Trump by being better organized and using better grass roots strategy to gain support of key party members at lower levels.

Many Trump supporters, however, are convinced it was rigged, especially after a tweet came from the Colorado GOP’s Twitter account saying “We did it. #NeverTrump”, even though the party quickly deleted it and said it was posted by an unauthorized user.

“They are just so darn angry because they think they’re not going to get what they want and they hate politics,” said House.

House says he worries about his family and because of that, he’s notified the police about the threats.
