2 pit bulls to be euthanized after Pueblo attack

Two pit bulls will be euthanized after attacking a man in a Pueblo neighborhood.

It happened Monday, outside a home on Frontier Street.

Neighbors said an elderly man, who often walks up and down the street, was taken away in an ambulance after 8 p.m. His injuries are unknown.

According to a spokesperson from the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, the owner of the dogs agreed to put the dogs down.

Teri Hervey, who lives down the street from the attack, said her her neighbor’s dogs gave her a scare.

“I was surrounded by them in the street a year ago and they had to be called back up there,” said Hervey.

Neighbors admit they’ve seen the dogs get out of the fenced yard, but at least one says she doesn’t believe they’re vicious.

“They’ve never showed any kind of aggression towards me or my children,” said Heather Watkins who lives near the attack.

The owner faces two counts of unlawful ownership of a dangerous animal as well as two counts of a dog at large.

Animal Services said it will euthanize the dogs as soon as possible for quality-of-life reasons.
