CSPD kicks off National Crime Victims Rights Week
In recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week victim advocates from law enforcement and community agencies are joining forces to create awareness.
The week-long event kicked off Monday with a Leader’s Run at the Pioneer Museum. The run is between police departments, the Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office.
The run is one of the activities scheduled this week to increase the public’s awareness on crimes ranging from domestic violence to homicides.
“Victim advocates work hard to keep victims rights in the forefront of all procedures and work really hard to make sure victims get all the attention that they need to get,” said Sheriff Bill Elder with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
It runs from April 10 through the 16. The main event is the victims’ rights 5K Saturday at North Monument Valley Park. All proceeds raised will go towards a victim advocates non-profit.
