UPDATE: Ellicott grass fire contained
UPDATE: Fire crews in Ellicott say they have 100% containment on a fire that scorched 50+ acres on Franceville Coal Mine road.
According to Ellicott Fire Chief Michael Henley, the flames may have been sparked by a lightning strike.
Crews were called out about 4:40pm Saturday, and immediately set to work protecting several threatened barns and sheds in the area.
All of those buildings are safe.
Crews will be in the area well into the night to mop up smoldering areas.
