tonight.. republicans are taking over the world arena… for the state republican convention. and the countdown is on… as people wait for presidential candidate ted cruz to get here. today, el paso county delegates made their picks.. and their voices are loud and clear. krdo newschannel 13’s eric fink is live at the world arena where the state convention is set to get underway. his stop in the springs is less than 24-hours away… and if the numbers are any indication, ted cruz will get a very warm welcome from the most influential people in the colorado g-o-p. in this ballroom, it was a dance of a different kind. surrogates trying to court hundreds of active el paso county republican voters… nats using whatever they can – be it a hat, button or sticker. kay rendleman was elected as a national delegate alternate to go to cleveland this summer and support ted cruz in his quest for the nomination. you’re seeing a tremendous amount of momentum for ted cruz. cruz was the decisive winner at the g-o-p congression al assemblies where now a handful of delegates from our state are pledged to the texas senator. nat andy colon spent the day proudly in the minority and wants to see a fundmental shift in our politics in this country. i can’t say everything that trump says is perfect, but one thing he does do, he fights for the little people. here’s a man who’s a billionarie who doesn’t need this job. but, he’s willing to fight for us. but it’s cruz who’s fighting hardest for colorado…w ith a stop here this weekend. cruz comes to the springs trailing trump by about 220 delegates, he’s had superior organization and even a trump spokesman concedes a potential cruz sweep here in colorado is possible. i’m not going to predict what the future is going to hold. our hope is to get to 1237, but let’s be clear, mr. trump has a huge delegate lead over his closest rival who is a professional politician. and you can’t miss the poster with trump’s closest rival’s slate of delegates. it’s kay rendleman only hope that cruz’s dance card picks up enough delegates to avoid a contested convention. it will be very close and certainly when you get to the second and third ballot. cruz will try to woo more delegates here tomorrow afternoon. he is scheduled to speak around 12-30. convention. it will be very close and certainly when you get to the second and third ballot. cruz will try to woo more delegates here tomorrow afternoon. he is scheduled to speak around 12-30. live in colorado springs, eric fink, k-r-d-o newschannel 13. colorado senator michael bennet’s meeting
