Woman asks for help finding missing cat following Quail Cove Apartments fire

One cat is still missing following Tuesday’s fire at the Quail Cove Apartments, in Colorado Springs. The cause of the fire, which damaged 10 units, is still unknown.

On Tuesday, firefighters were able to rescue two dogs and two guinea pigs. On Wednesday, fire investigators rescued one cat and found one deceased cat. One additional cat named Jinx is still missing.

The owner of Jinx continues to search and is asking for help.

“I’m hoping if he was trying to hide he was here and as soon as the window shattered he was able to jump out,” said Rali Rangelova.

Jinx is a 13-pound male cat with green eyes. He is mostly white with a gray tail and has a gray triangle on his forehead.

Jinx would wait at Rangelova’s window every day for her to come home from work or school. He was her support system while her fiance is deployed in Kuwait.

“My fiance had me get him because I was a little sad when I got here. I had nobody so he wanted me to have a pet,” she said.

Rangelova has posted several fliers hoping someone will see it and recognize Jinx.

“A friend helped me put up all the signs and we’re hoping that it helps, there’s a picture of him and explanation of what happened,” she said.

Rangelova was at work when the fire happened, but is hopeful Jinx was able to escape when a maintenance worker opened all the doors to alert residents.

“I’ve been walking around and calling for him but I’m sure he’s scared and terrified. I’m hoping he made it out. I’ll do whatever I can to find him,” she said.

Maintenance crews say Rangelova’s apartment sustained the worst damage and is considered a total loss.

“It’s painful. It’s hurtful. It feels terrible. I can’t believe it,” she said.

She says she can live without her possessions, all she wants back is Jinx.

“He’s a living thing and everything else we can buy.”

18 residents were not allowed to return to their homes Tuesday night. The Red Cross assisted and provided temporary housing.

There is a $350 reward being offered for any information that leads to Jinx. Contact Rali at 719-321-0507.
