Students donate blood at Mitchell High School

Bio-medical students at Mitchell High School chose to celebrate “Donate Life” month by giving blood. The students had help from Bonfils Blood Center, who hosted the event at the school. The students were pleasantly surprised when the amount of people they expected to participate was greater than imagined. A total of 90 people gave blood, which was twice as much as they expected in the first place.

Mitchell High School English teacher Rob Lessig, was very proud of his students, “I challenge my students in my senior composition class to think like entrepreneurs. I want them to build something in the community to learn that arguments weren’t something we do in English class, but something we do to create a better community.” Lessig added, ” They decided they wanted to do something to give back to the community, they’re very passionate.”

The event itself was not open to the public. The first blood drive had 40 donors, and the second had 50.
