First 2C-funded road repair project slated to start this week

The City of Colorado Springs says that road repairs paid for with funds collected following the passage of Issue 2C are about to begin.

The first 2C-funded project will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 8. The project will repair damaged concrete at the intersection of Woodmen Road and Lexington Drive, which is on the north side of the city.

The city says concrete repairs on Woodmen Road were given priority because Woodmen is in poor condition between Lexington Drive and Powers Boulevard, and is scheduled to be paved later this year. It also noted that Woodmen will be expanded to six lanes from west of Lexington to Stinson Road beginning in June.

The city says concrete work is the first phase in repairing Colorado Springs’ pothole riddled roads. It awarded concrete work contracts to seven companies in the amount of $1 million each, with additional task orders for more work to be awarded based on performance. Blue Ridge Construction was awarded the contract to complete concrete work on Woodmen Road between Lexington and Powers Boulevard for $250,000. The estimated completion date is May 31 , 2016.

The following contractors were awarded $1 million contracts for concrete work with additional task orders to be awarded based on performance:

AA Construction Company, Inc.
Blue Ridge Construction Inc. CMS of Colorado Springs, Inc.
DRX Enterprises, LLC Even-Preisser, Inc. NORAA Concrete Construction Corporation Trax Construction, Inc.

The City will finalize contracts for paving operations in the coming weeks and anticipates paving to begin in May.

Voters approved issue 2C in November. The measure levies a temporary 0.62 percent sales tax in Colorado Springs to be used exclusively for road repairs.
