Vigil held for man killed on Gold Camp Road

A vigil was held Monday night for a man who died while climbing at Gold Camp Road in Colorado Springs.

The climber was a 24-year-old Jose Hernandez.

He was found near the tunnels of Gold Camp Road.

He was transported to Penrose Hospital where he later died.

A climber died after suffering severe head trauma from a fall Sunday evening near Gold Camp Road between Tunnels 1 and 2, Colorado Springs Police said.

Lt. Makofske with CSPD says the Major Crimes Unit will be investigating the death later on today.

Friends and family gathered at the skate park at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs Monday night.

His mother said the skate park was like a second home to Hernandez.
