Red Flag Warnings lead to concern for firefighters

It was warm and windy Tuesday, and that means red flag warnings were once again in effect for parts of Southern Colorado.

But how do firefighters cope with the seemingly constant danger?

It seems like it was a case of another day another red flag warning around the area. In the last month, Pueblo has seen 10 days with red flag warnings, El Paso County has logged eight days.

Earlier Tuesday, the brush was blowing in the wind as the warm and dry weather continued.

For the average person this cycle of warnings can be a nuisance, but when it’s your job to battle any blazes that break out, it can be exhausting.

“Everybody on the line, every firefighter is skilled and trained in wildland firefighting so it just helps us to be aware we may be busy,” Captain Michael Archuleta said,

Captain Archuleta said that one down side to all these red flag warnings is that it limits training time. But he says that they’ll be ready if a fire does break out.
