Palmer Ridge Baseball has a new coaching staff
After an incident during a spring break trip in Arizona, Palmer Ridge fired three of their baseball coaches – including Manager Steve Whiting.
On Saturday Whiting spoke with KRDO NewsChannel 13, saying that the last couple days haven’t been easy – but he’s received an outpouring of support from players and parents.
Whiting also says that he believes the decision to fire the coaching staff was an overreaction by the school, and that he feels it was “unjustified.”
Whiting hopes to hold a meeting with parents sometime next week for a chance to set the record straight.
Peter Gordon was named interim manager and in his first game at the helm the Bears rolled to an 11-1 victory over Vista Ridge.
After the win the Bears said they’re ready to move past this situation.
“They came up and said thank you for helping out,” said Gordon. “I can’t speak enough on their character and I can’t speak enough on what kind of men they are. They’re great young men.”
“We just gotta keep working well as a team and we just can’t lose focus, and that’s our big thing really,” said junior pitcher Bryan Boatman.
