Lafayette man gets 25 years for arson, trying to drown dog

A Lafayette man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a string of crimes last year that ended with him trying to drown a Pomeranian.

The Daily Times-Call reportsthat 30-year-old Frank Duran was sentenced on Friday after previously pleading guilty to aggravated robbery and arson charges. Prosecutors dropped burglary, motor vehicle theft, felony menacing, trespassing and child abuse charges.

Police say Duran stole a car and went on a string of robberies on Feb. 4, 2015, threatening to kill a Weld County man’s child and then stealing another car at knifepoint. He eventually drove to Niwot, where he set a home on fire and tried to drown a Pomeranian named Cujo. The dog was not injured.
