Meals on wheel to start feeding pets in Pueblo

Meals on Wheels already helps keep people from going hungry, and now it’s focusing some attention on the “furry friends” in Pueblo. The program has teamed up with the Steel City Alley Cat Coalition to provide pet supplies to elderly people in the community. Meals on Wheels will give dog food, cat food, and cat litter to those pets in need.

Tegan Oehmen from Meals on Wheels discussed the new program, “Senior citizens will go and feed their cats or their dogs before themselves. We want to make sure that the senior citizens or aging adults, and also the pets go and are both taken care of.”

The pet food donations are coming from various sponsors throughout the community. Meals on Wheels is also working to get a grant to help with funding the new program.
