Snow surprises visitors in Colorado Springs
Southern Colorado residents are accustomed to seeing snow in early spring but some visitors this week wanted to see better weather in the Rocky Mountains.
On Thursday, for the second straight day, a brief but intense band of snow fell in the Colorado Springs area but melted so quickly that it caused no major traffic impacts and left road crews with little work to do.
Keith Allison and his daughter, Miranda Allison, came from North Carolina.
“The weather is worse now than it was when I was here in January,” Keith Allison said. “Back then it was sunny and 50 degrees. I didn’t even need a coat. I wish I had one now. Everything is blooming and green back home.”
Ken and Teresa Gamble, a Minnesota couple, also expected more springlike weather.
“We were hoping for 70s,” they said.
The weekend forecast is for 60-degree temperatures across much of southern Colorado.
“I know they say just wait a few minutes if you don’t like the weather here, and it will change,” said Allison. “And I know this is a mountain climate. But the weather should be nicer.”
