Phase 2 of Manitou Incline begins August

The second phase of the Manitou Incline project will close the hot spot for four months, starting in August.

The improvements will focus on safety and sustainability of the trail, among other things.

A few changes to the trail rules include opening and closing times of the trail throughout the year as well as the enforcement of the no pets rule.

Manitou police will be increasing patrols to the area while it is closed to make sure no one is trespassing. They will also be issuing tickets to trail users if necessary.

“This brings 1,000 to 2,000 people a day to Manitou Springs and to our region, so we want that to be an enjoyable experience and we want it to be a safe experience,” said Chief Joe Ribeiro, from the Manitou Springs Police Department.

The cost of these improvements is $1 million.
