Canon City High School principal resigns
Canon City high school is losing its principal. Brett Meuli says he is resigning.
The surprising announcement comes months after his school’s sexting scandal caught the attention of the entire nation. The scandal came to light in November.
Parents were shocked to discover that hundreds of students, some under age, were secretly exchanging naked photos. The discovery prompted a felony investigation.
“It put Canon City in the news in a way we didn’t want to be in the news. A part of me was reluctant to give this interview, because I don’t want to bring that back up,” said Meuli.
Meuli sat down with KRDO to clear the air. He says he’s not resigning because of the scandal.
“I just think it’s time to walk away. The sexting scandal may have been in the back of my mind, but I don’t think it came to be a factor. Maybe if I leave the sexting scandal will go with me and Canon City can move on,” Meuli said.
Meuli also said some of his passion for his job was missing.
“When I realized that way gone, I knew somebody else need to step in. I can’t be the best I can be, if I don’t do it with that passion,” said Meuli.
Meuli says it’s time to focus on his family.
“I need to spend time with my two girls,” Meuli said.
Meuli resigns at the end of this school year.
The district doesn’t know who will take his place.
