“Blizzerable”: Storm fatigue setting in for many
Do we need the moisture? Clearly. Still, many local residents we spoke to Friday night say that snow fatigue is starting to set in.
Friday’s newest blast of winter-like weather brought much wetter snow than what we saw on Wednesday, making roads a bit easier to navigate.
But that snow is expected to continue through Saturday, making travel a challenge, especially at a time when so many motorists are hitting the road for a three-day holiday weekend.
C-DOT tankers were out on the interstate, spraying de-icer along I-25 in hopes of keeping roads clear.
According to C-DOT spokesman Bob Wilson, the state would like to avoid a repeat of Wednesday, when hundreds of travelers were stranded by a sudden interstate closure with little warning.
Wilson says this time around, his crews will be quicker to close the interstate if it looks like treacherous conditions are developing. The idea; close I-25 down and evacuate drivers before they become trapped on the roadway.
That’s certainly something that many truckers are hoping to avoid.
One we spoke to, Erik Caruso, recalls Wednesday with a chill. “I stopped about ninety miles north of Denver on Tuesday night,” the trucker told NewsChannel 13’s Bart Bedsole, “and I couldn’t leave until Thursday morning”
At the Safeway store in Monument, we ran into more residents bracing for the worst. Shoppers stocked up on groceries in anticipation of staying put on Saturday.
One shopper, Michael Enbery, summed up a lot of what we heard Friday night: “It’s been a snowier winter than we’ve had in 3-4 years. I’m ready to go to Florida”
