Standoff in El Paso County ends peacefully

A standoff with a suicidal man that caused evacuations in El Paso County Sunday is over.

It’s happened at a home near Drennan Rd. and Marksheffel Rd.

Deputies said it all began around 1 p.m. Sunday, when Raymond San Nicholas Fernandez’s wife called 911 saying he was going to kill himself.

The sheriff’s office says that when deputies tried to force their way into the home, Fernandez threatened to hurt officers and himself. It says he also indicated that he had untreated PTSD and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Some nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Fernandez gave up around 4 p.m. and was arrested. He faces charges of prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
