UPDATE: Officer shot in Maryland dies
Authorities in Maryland say an officer who was shot near a suburban police station near the nation’s capital has died at a hospital.
The Prince George’s County Police Department said on Twitter that 28-year-old officer Jacai Colson died in an “unprovoked attack.” The department said Colson was a four-year veteran. Initially police said Colson was 29 but a later tweet from police clarified that he was just days shy of his 29th birthday.
Officials say the shooting occurred at a community center next to the Landover police station in Prince George’s County, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
Authorities say another person, who is not a police officer, also was wounded.
Police said two suspects were in custody.
