Two cats killed in house fire

An early morning fire killed two cats in Colorado Springs.

The family living in the home was able to escape unharmed, along with one other cat and several birds.

It happened just before 5:30 Wednesday morning on Clover Circle West, in the Stratmoor Hills area.

The fire mostly damaged the garage, which the family had just replaced the roof to about two weeks ago. The roof collapsed from the fire.

Popping noises and a boom were reportedly heard.

The family is not able to stay in the house for about a week. Red Cross will be assisting the family.

Investigators are working on figuring out the cause of the fire.
