Scammers use ‘spoofing’ to try to rip-off Colorado Springs Utilities customers

Colorado Springs Utilities warns that just because their phone number shows up on your caller ID, doesn’t mean that the call is coming from them.

The utility says scammers are spoofing it’s phone number — using technology to make a call from a different phone number appear to come from Colorado Springs Utilities on your caller ID.

The scammers try to convince customers that their lives will be interrupted and their business will suffer unless they pay up immediately.

Colorado Springs Utilities says that if you get such a call, even if it comes from their phone number (719-448-4800), you should not pay. Instead, hang up and contact the utility directly to check on the status of your account. You can also sign up to manage your account online at csu.org.
