Cannabis club controversy

Cannabis clubs are a place for people to hang out and smoke marijuana, not buy it.

But some people think that’s exactly what’s happening inside of the clubs. People are also suspicious that the clubs are attracting illegal activity.

KRDO spoke with one woman who disagrees. Sherise Nipper says that the clubs are crucial to her health.

“When I was in Texas I was having 10-50 seizures a day. My seizures would be so extreme I would tear ligaments, which left me in a wheel chair,” said Nipper.

That’s why Nipper moved her family to Colorado, to give medical marijuana a try.

But there were a few things she didn’t know.

“Nobody told us you couldn’t medicate in a hotel or at the city park, on in a parking lot. What was I supposed to do?” said Nipper.

Nipper says cannabis clubs were her answer.

“It’s some people’s only place to medicate. If their lease says they can’t medicate, they’ll be evicted,” said Nipper.

Now, Sherise is happy to announce that she’s, “311 days seizure free!” said Nipper.

“Cannabis clubs have really helped me to stay seizure free and that’s very important for the community to understand,” Nipper said.

But others have high hopes that the clubs will leave Colorado Springs.

“Cannabis clubs are not something I would be for. It really needs to regulated, and very very regulated, for the safety of the community and for our reputation.”

City council will vote on the future of cannabis clubs Tuesday night.

A decision isn’t final until a second reading.
